1,000 Greatest Drivers: Garth Tander
Party on, Holden!
I don’t have much of anything to say today except that I’m donating my mom’s car which hasn’t been running for six years to Habitat for Humanity. Hopefully, that should clear more space in the garage to make it more navigable for when Mom comes back, which I’m still hoping will happen. And also hopefully, that will allow me to move other things to the garage so I can create neater paths elsewhere.
The ones I got wrong I just didn’t know, although I had heard of Gödel’s Incompleteness Theorem, come to think of it. I put flamenco for #1, allies and refuge for #2 (just hadn’t heard the quote and I sure haven’t read enough about most of the recent wars), recursion for #4, and frog for #6. It seems I miss all these animal questions that everyone else finds really easy. It’s true that I didn’t watch a lot of nature documentaries and stuff and I’m assuming most of the players in the league did, but I also don’t think this is stuff that comes up in science classes much either. This is the first and only food question I have gotten, because it’s a food even anti-foodies like me have heard of and because I’d certainly heard of the House of Orange.
I think almost all my wrong answers here were good ones. I put Tripoli for #1, Arial for #2 (I really didn’t think Arial was that old, but I forgot about Helvetica, which is admittedly almost exactly the same font and I certainly saw the fonts for several of those companies often enough it was an easy mistake to make), lumen for #3 (I thought it was looking for a unit), prime rib for #4, and Sumo wrestling for #5. I really don’t think any of those answers were far off, so I’m okay with this one.
Haven’t watched the F1 movie yet. For all my racing fandom, I’ve never really gotten into racing movies and it’s not one of my favorite genres, but given my racing fandom, I’ve certainly heard of it. I got the math question backwards. While I certainly remember the whole SOHCAHTOA mnemonic from high school (sine = opposite/hypotenuse, cosine = adjacent/hypotenuse, tangent = opposite/adjacent) for right triangles, I had no such mnemonic in my head for unit circles, so I got that backwards. #1 I put Keir Starmer (I was guessing British Labour Party leaders). #5 I put Argentina, which was a more popular answer than the actual answer of Paraguay since it is much more common knowledge that a lot of Nazi war criminals fled to Argentina than Paraguay. #3 was one of my most embarrassing misses. Obviously I got that it was Beatles albums, but I didn’t understand what the other category was. I was thinking that it was material for construction, so I put rubber (as in Rubber Soul), but apparently it was things you use in the act of self-deletion. Pretty dark answer really.
Didn’t know this stuff at all. Probably should have known what pyrexia is (I put chicken pox for that). I had Brussels for #1, jewels for #2, and the Labour Party for #5 (thought it was political parties; had no idea it was TV networks; I guess I just had the Labour Party on the brain this week). I correctly guessed that Michael had supermodels in that video, although I don’t think I’d ever watched it. And I correctly guessed that Cindy Crawford would be one of them since I remembered how famous she was when I was an extremely young boy.
This might’ve had a couple of my most embarrassing misses. I don’t know why I thought other people were going to find smartphone so difficult (maybe because I wasn’t completely sure myself). I really should have gotten #1 and #3. I had diaspora right. I thought of it and then I changed to holocaust because I remembered the animal sacrifice definition from the Old Testament and I knew holocaust was used in that context a lot, while I wasn’t sure if the word diaspora was used (definitely not in the King James Version). I’m embarrassed by this just because that answer is in bad taste, but granted, the actual answer of revolver a couple days earlier was probably in just as bad taste, so it’s not like it was out of the question. And then I put Lula instead of Bolsonaro because I knew that Lula was a former President and that he was put in prison, and I kind of thought Bolsonaro was still President and didn’t realize that he no longer was. I had nothing for question #2.
