Bubble Drivers: S
I found a suitable picture for the occasion...
This was our Halloween party when I was in Pre-K in 1989 at the St. Rose of Lima Catholic school in North Syracuse. I was never into superheroes, even to this day. I don’t think I’ve ever even watched a comic book movie, which is weird considering now they dominate the cultural zeitgeist. I was probably too big a Calvin and Hobbes fan for that. Obviously, Bill Watterson spent the majority of the second half of his run whining about how television/comic books/mass culture/not going outside enough are Ruining the Youth and while it’s still my favorite comic strip and all, I’m kinda surprised he hasn’t gotten more backlash from all the people who spurn asceticism and hate on boomers since it is probably one of the most quintessential boomer texts… (Also, Calvin went outside way more than any actual old millennial did.) But I digress. No, what I liked about this costume (which I wore all the time) was simply the idea of having my own monogrammed sweatsuit rather than anything to do with Superman. And no, I don’t really remember who Batman is. I transferred out of St. Rose into the regular North Syracuse schools about a week into kindergarten when the teacher whose name rhymes with mine (Mrs. Zona) refused to let me go to the bathroom and I pooped my pants. I have been going back to mass there the past few weeks in a fruitless search for community, but I have not yet found it. Typically, I’m too degenerate for religious communities and not degenerate enough for online ones.
My mom went to the emergency room over the weekend because she had another urinary tract infection, although she recovered a little bit today and I will be coming back in tomorrow to hopefully finally get the form to apply for a ramp so hopefully she’ll be able to come home someday. I have everything finished with the form except for getting it signed and obtaining a piece of documentation from one of the nurses or doctors there about why she needs the ramp. And now I’ve received a warning from my mom’s homeowners’ insurance company about some repairs that need to be made to the roof. Sigh. I also had one of my worst stomachaches a few hours ago as I was in the middle of writing this but it has passed after several sharts. I spent a lot of time looking up how to convince myself to eat real food and then I keep not actually doing it. I’d love a dietician to treat my ARFID, but what kind of person who doesn’t have a PMC job can afford that shit?
One of the things I wanted to do here was finish entering all the data from the Belgian touring car championship because I figured Alain Semoulin was a likely contender for this list and indeed, I’ve made him a lock despite his obscurity. There are a number of other drivers who passed through there including Jean Xhenceval who I will be addressing soon and I thought I needed to do that before I proceeded further. I also entered the results from several other touring series that didn’t last as long over the past couple days. I’m going to try to go through the remaining 28 T drivers and make a post this week and then the remaining 43 drivers (which is about as long as this post) the following week, hopefully finishing before the NASCAR finale or at least immediately after it so then I can work on my top 200 list. I do still intend to post things, probably going over my statistical tables for each of the major league racing series this season as I complete them like I already did for IndyCar and I’m also thinking about maybe adding some more non-racing content to give me time to stall while writing the list. This is Superman signing off.
